The Martin HD-28 is one of the most iconic rosewood dreadnought acoustic guitars ever built—and the 2025 Standard Series refresh enhances its legendary tone with improved responsiveness and modern playability. This version features a stunning Ambertone top, adding vintage-inspired character to a timeless design.
Built with a solid spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, the HD-28 delivers a powerful, full-range voice with deep bass, shimmering highs, and rich overtone content. Compared to the D-28, the HD-28’s scalloped bracing produces a more open, resonant sound with greater bass bloom and harmonic complexity.
The 2025 update features Golden Era (GE) forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing (5/16"), allowing the top to move more freely for increased openness, dynamic range, and responsiveness.
Playability is refined with a GE Modified Low Oval neck profile, long diamond neck transition, sleeker vintage-style heel, and a thinner ebony fingerboard with gently beveled comfort edges. The addition of an angled nut improves string alignment and feel for a smooth, comfortable playing experience.
